At ICLC 2020 in Limerick, I presented a paper called "The Mégra System - Small Data Music Composition and Live Coding Performance", where I discussed my live coding language Mégra in the context of the, at the time somewhat unexplored, notion of "small data".
First of all I tried to come up with a solid working definition of what makes data "small".
In this talk, I'll revisit the working definition and see how it held up in the last 4 years, what developments have happened since then, and whether the meaning of "small" has changed in the meantime.
In 2020, my own system was still quite new, flawed in many ways, and I hadn't had too many chances to explore its actual capabilities. Thus, in my talk I'd also like to present some observations "from the field" on putting a small data idea into practice, and on communicating the "conversation with the model" with the audience in an effective way. |
